It's President's Day. Celebrate the awesomeness that is Washington.

Maybe a little Lincoln too. If you feel like it. But Washington celebration is mandatory.

South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds. He's infamous for his attempts to ban abortion, driving away the youth of South Dakota and not enforcing August 4 as "KISS rock and roll day" [link] . But, as part of his budget address Thursday, he proposed something truly abhorrent.

Cutting all budgets that support the arts in South Dakota.

That means no arts programs, no grants, no funding, no art council, no nothing. Once again, my state screws me over. Hell, who am I kidding? My state doesn't care about art unless it's done by Terry Redlin or carved into a mountain and, in turn, it never cared about me. Me, a 22 year old artist who has little or no hope getting a job in my state. What the fuck? Honestly.

You know, it's fun living in a state that get's continually frozen by the Canadian frost monsters every winter. It's -30 degrees below zero here, meaning my car won't start which means that I missed my first class of the semester and my hair cut appointment. It's the third time this has happened, each time caused by bad weather. Which sucks, because I'm getting pretty shaggy over here.

I'm not doing much. I'm sketching and fooling around with my new camera in hopes of getting some decent pictures of my paintings on here(it's a dinky little thing).

A lot of things I want to do next year and a lot of things I want to talk about. I'll just compile them in list form.

1. My gory work is going next year. I'm evicting it for better stuff. Besides, the only people that favorite it are angsty teenagers who read too much Vasquez work.

2. I'm currently trying to get a horror/comedy comic off the ground. It's hard, because I don't think I have a black humorous bone in my body(at least not the super witty kind) and most of the wells have poisoned already.

3. Do you realise that DC comics has been a perpetual crisis since 2006? When will comic fans learn to stop being so addicted and gullible?

4. The Spirit movie bombed, both critically and commercially, proving the American people's taste for dark has subsided. Will Eisner be praised.

5. I hope to do more Video Game themed work in the future, if just to replace my older work. A lot of new stuff around the corner there.

6. I can't be the only who saw this page and thought "Now we're getting somewhere!" [link]

7. I hate to end this list with two links in a row, so I won't.

8. If you ever get the chance, be sure to check out the puppet version of "Dante's Inferno" [link] . It's a hilarious and wonderful updating of Dante's original work. I highly recommend it, if just for the fact it's made with cardboard cutouts.

Now that list is over, I'll probably spend my evening kicking back a Frosty's Cherry Limeade and watching "Escape from New York" to ring in the New Year. Let Old Acquaintance be Forgot.

I fucking love Batman: Brave and the Bold. If it was a woman, I would take it out to a nice dinner. It's the series that validates my belief that the Dick Sprang/Bill Finger is the best approach to Batman. Awesome=Good and makes B:BATB a very refreshing change of pace from the darkness that's slowly creeping into everything. And it keeps getting better and better.


EDIT: It looks like there's an early review for "The Spirit": [link] . Personally, I already made my opinion about this movie after seeing the trailer. I think Miller should be brought up on charges for raping the corpse of his "friend" Will Eisner and putting a smear on Eisner's prolific comic work. Also, they fight in shit. They fight in human feces in this movie.

Also, I'm sorry for not getting much art in my account lately. I have a bunch of paintings and collages that I want to post, but I don't got a camera and my scanner sucks.
